Who writes this

Dale Whitmore is an ISA-certified arborist with 22 years of felling, pruning and storm clean-up work. Every tool covered here is used on his own saws before it is written about, and the first-person accounts on this site describe his own testing.

How we test

Each sharpener is used on the same dull 18" chain and judged on four things: how long a full bar takes, whether the cut runs straight afterwards, whether chips (not powder) come off the kerf, and whether the tool can be used where the work happens rather than only at a bench.

How we verify data

Competitor prices, star ratings, review counts, availability and product images are scraped directly from the Amazon product detail pages and recorded with a timestamp. We never estimate a price, never back-calculate a discount from a percentage, and never publish a figure we cannot check. Where a price cannot be verified, we show none. The raw snapshot is published at /amazon-source-audit.json.
